The city has been rocked by violent protests after ANC members unhappy with the selection of Thoko Didiza as the ruling party’s mayoral candidate for Tshwane went on a rampage of violence and destruction of property.

Twitter’s also been dominated by the protests, with disturbing footage of ANC members looting spaza shops and burning public-and-private property out of protest about the party’s candidate lists.

In the first clip you can hear someone say “look at them stealing, oh my gosh!”

Another user Tweeted a video of a masked ANC supporter saying they’ll vote for the DA if the ruling party doesn’t change its mayoral candidate for Tshwane.

Tweets with images of destruction and looting have flooded out into the public sphere, while the SABC’s no doubt showing videos of sunflowers and daisies.

Meanwhile, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has said that these protests have nothing to do with the party’s election candidate lists. Uhm… ok.
