Watch: Airbnb host pushes South African down stairs in alleged racial incident in Amsterdam [video]
A South African traveller in the Netherlands was reportedly shoved down a flight of stairs ‘for checking out late’.
SA-based artist Zanele Muholi posted a video to her Instagram page showing an altercation between some of her friends and an Airbnb host in Amsterdam.
Traveller24 reports that the incident allegedly kicked off after Muholi’s friends missed their checkout time ‘by a few minutes’, leading to the Dutch host losing it and allegedly pushing one of the South African travellers down the stairs.

“Appalling and unconscionable behaviour against members of our community runs counter to everything Airbnb stands for. Our CEO Brian Chesky and I are reaching out to the affected guests,” said Airbnb’s Director of Diversity & Belonging, David King.
“We will take the strongest actions we can against such abhorrent conduct, including banning people for life from our platform and assisting law enforcement with their investigation and potential prosecution. Nobody should ever be treated like this and it will not be tolerated,” King said.
