‘South Africans owe Jacob Zuma an apology’. ANC Youth League [video]

Well, that’s that then, isn’t it?

‘South Africans owe Jacob Zuma

Speaking to News24, ANCYL secretary general Njabulo Nzuza said Zuma is owed an apology for the nationwide protests calling for him to step down.

According to Nzuza people protested because of the effect Zuma’s assault on Treasury had on the Rand and economy — nothing to do with the Guptas, Nkandla, widespread corruption and, oh yeah, him being the reason SA’s ratings status slipping to junk –.

“I think we honestly owe president Zuma an apology. He was insulted in the streets of Pretoria,” Nzuza said, adding that the Rand has recovered and the economy stabilised in the meantime.

Nzuza, clearly an expert on economic matters and the long-term impact of a ratings downgrade on South Africa’s poorest, also attacked ANC members who spoke out against the cabinet reshuffle — several of whom make up the National Executive Council of the ruling party –.

“The rand has shown strength. What then today is the argument for Zuma to go, because he has not collapsed the markets?”

Shortly after Zuma’s latest cabinet reshuffle party leaders, including Gwede Mantashe and Cyril Ramaphosa, spoke out strongly against the decision, its impact on the economy as well as the president and his allies’ unwillingness to listen to the masses marching against them.

Last weekend Ramaphosa unofficially launched his campaign for ANC presidency by attacking Zuma and the Guptas and on Wednesday Mantashe distanced himself from comments Zuma made about himself and the deputy president.

Tt looks like, despite the Youth League’s increasingly militant defence of Zuma and the Guptas, the tide is starting to turn against the president and his cabal.
