Thanks to an animated video, people who are familiar with the history of the “unsinkable” RMS Titanic can re-live the ship’s final moments in real-time before it ended up on the bottom of the ocean.

The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912 during its voyage from Southampton to New York City.

The ship’s downfall came after it hit an iceberg and eventually sank in just a few hours. The disaster was met with worldwide shock and outrage at the regulatory and operational failures that had led to it. It’s believed there were approximately 2,224 passengers and crew members on the ship, of which more than 1,500 died.

And now an animated video (that looks quite realistic featuring a very accurate ship and detailed account of the ship’s sinking) illustrates exactly how the ship came to its downfall. It includes information bubbles at the bottom of the screen showing the exact minute key events took place, from the orchestra starting up, to the time each lifeboat launched. (but no Leonardo DiCaprio or Kate Winslet, though).

Along with some atmospheric sounds, the video starts off at 11:39 pm when the crew spots the iceberg. At around 2:15 am the ship can be seen rising up out of the water before splitting dramatically in half, then plunging down into the frozen water.

The video was created by developers from a game called Titanic: Honor and Glory, which is mainly based on the ship’s maiden voyage and sinking. The game allows players to experience and explore elements of the Titanic’s tale reserved only for history books, and see what it was like to really be on the ship.

The video has gone viral since its release with nearly 18 million hits. Here is an updated clip to see the ship’s sinking from another angle:
