It has been a long journey for Lil Wayne but finally, after years of promises and legal battles, he has delivered his most-anticipated album, #CarterV.

Lil Tunechi held onto this project for quite a while and it was not out of stinginess that he did not want to share his musical genius with the world.

Internal squabbles at Cash Money Records, the label Wayne carried from the ground up, have been at the centre of why it took so long.

Birdman, the founder of the label, would just not let Lil Wayne leave Cash Money. There were also allegations from the rapper’s legal camp that Birdman owed Wayne millions of dollars in royalty fees and other sums of money accumulated from world tours and features.

The publicised squabble between the two showed us — the observers of the culture — that this was deeper than money, it was deeper than rap.

There are unspoken things that were clearly happening in the background that broke one of Hip-Hop’s tightest bonds. However, we were all rallying behind Tunechi.

Moguls like Jay Z and Rick Ross were too. Rozay even went as far as releasing a song, Idols Become Rivals, publicly pleading with Birdman to let Wayne go.

Finally, after many years, we saw Lil Wayne and Birdman share the same stage at Weezyiana Festival, where the label owner announced that he would release the Louisiana rapper from his contract. Hence, Friday, 28 September is World Carter V Day.

Lil Wayne – #Carter V: Tracklisting

Usually, an album that skips past 13 songs in 2018 is way too long for our attention spans. However, Lil Tunechi releasing the 23-song Carter V album after years of silence is a gesture that has been received very well.

The fact that he opted to release his long-awaited album on his birthday speaks to how close to his heart this project is.

He spared no cost in reaching out to the best artists in world music right now to assist him with this project. XXXTentacion met his untimely death earlier this year but he posthumously made the cut on Don’t Cry.

It did surprise many that Drake never made the cut for this project. However, that may have been a friendly creative issue they got over.

The standout record at the moment is Don’t Cry. Besides it being such a bop, it is also the sentiment of having the late XXXTentacion featured posthumously.

3MG Live and other YouTubers are trying their best to hack YouTube’s algorithms and copyright rules to give us appropriate reactions to the songs on the album.

The internet is yet to explode throughout the weekend as people are still soaking this all in.
