Well, it’s been a strange one, to say the least. But these days, what does Kanye West get up to that isn’t strange? The music mogul gave Elon Musk the PR he never asked for, during a bizarre rant in Detroit.

West stopped by the College for Creative Students in the city, to pass on whatever wisdom he apparently still has left. His address to the class soon had the audience reaching for their phones, when the energetic rapper leapt onto a table and started waxing lyrical about the Pretoria-born billionaire.

Kanye told the perplexed learners:

“Elon Musk? I don’t care who’s over at his house, leave that man the f*ck alone. Leave that man the f*ck alone.”

What is the link between Kanye West and Elon Musk?

If he’s not boasting about the “dragon energy” he shares with Donald Trump, or claiming that slaves should have “just walked away”, you can guarantee there’ll be some other pseudo-intellectual pursuit the chart-topper will be embarking upon. That’s his thing now.

His thoroughly-odd defence of Musk allegedly refers to a spat between the businessman and controversial rapper Azealia Banks. Elon Musk is in a relationship with artist Grimes, who was working on a track with Banks earlier in the year.

However, Azealia reported on her Instagram that Elon Musk was “high” during her visit – which was around the same time Musk sent out his damaging tweet about Tesla. He claimed that he’d put his company on the stock market for $420 a share, causing a spike in its market value.

When he later climbed down from this claim, he was in a whole lot of hot water. American authorities accused him of fraud, which lead to a $20 million lawsuit. Musk has since agreed to step down from the executive.
