Jacob Zuma took to the stage in Pietermaritzburg on Friday to make a song and dance about his corruption trial.

Crowds had gathered outside of the high court to support Zuma, before heading to a rally in the town centre.

The former president rallied about everything, from his bullish beliefs that he won’t be prosecuted, to lecturing religious figures about sharing their feelings on politics: Zuma has been criticised by pastors for his role in the state capture saga.

Who will Jacob Zuma support in the 2019 elections?

As well as the prospect of jail time from this trial, there’s another question hanging over Zuma’s head. His political future has been subject to speculation recently after the ANC dumped him as their president.

The newly-formed Mazibuye African Congress pride themselves on being pro-Zuma, and even consulted the former statesman during formative discussions. Rumours have been rife that JZ could be tempted to board a different ship for the 2019 elections.

However, Msholozi was emphatic in his support for the ANC. In fact, he even appointed himself as a chief cheerleader for the campaign ahead:

“I will be canvassing for the ANC in 2019. That is my thing, it is something I’ll be doing. The ANC used to have two-thirds of the vote, but that has now declined. I don’t know how that happened, but I’ll be making suggestions for how it can be regained.”

You read that correctly. Zuma is completely oblivious as to why support has dwindled for the ANC in recent years. He could have at least tried to guess?

If there’s one thing you can’t criticise him for though, it’s his singing voice. Msholozi was belting out the classics yet again in KZN, much to the delight of his audience. Check those moves out, too – seriously slick for a man in his seventies.
