Inside Season 8 Episode 4 of Game of Thrones [video]

While the first three episodes of Game of Thrones focused on defeating the army of the dead and the Nigh King, the next three episodes will focus on the final battle, which is essentially between Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen.

And while the most recent episode of Game of Thrones saw Daenerys and Cersei demand the other’s surrender, producers decided to begin the episode with the burning of the dead bodies who fought and died during the Battle of Winterfell.

“The beginning of episode 4 is a chance for the characters in this show to say goodbye [to those who died during the battle],” says executive producer D.B. Weiss.

David Benioff also says that the episode has that dark, sombre beginning that’s appropriate because of what happened in the previous episode.

“Daenerys is scarred by the events that just took place, but she’s also very much thinking about what Jon Snow told her [about him being her nephew and the rightful King] and she’s really shaken when she see’s everyone celebrating with him,” Benioff continues.

“She realizes that his true identity is a real threat to her if it comes out, so she’s in a fairly dark place.”

And while it almost looks like things will be returning to the way it was, especially between Daenerys and Jon Snow, Dany quickly sets her new course and demands that they sail to King’s Landing…and it doesn’t end well.

“Emotionally, she’s alone,” says Weiss about Daenerys’ state of mind at the end of episode 4. “She can’t really trust anybody. Unlike then [the beginning of Game of Thrones] she’s extremely powerful and unlike then she’s filled with a rage that’s aimed at one person specifically.”
