You’d think the sight of a massive convoy of coal trucks delivering supplies to beleaguered Eskom plants would be something most welcome in Mzansi. Well, you can guess again. We’ve all been left very cynical by the powers that be over the past few years, and our suspicious minds are working at full capacity – unlike some of Eskom’s facilities.

Footage shared on social media – which you can see at the bottom of the article – shows the trucks queuing for what appears to be a few kilometres. The vehicles can be seen stretching back over the horizon. The video, allegedly taken on Tuesday, shows the convoy making their way to Majuba power station in Mpumalanga.

However, that only sparked controversy online. For a start, many were left upset by the fact that coal is being brought in via trucks, and not through the cheaper method of train transport:

People are also miffed by the fact that Eskom has ended up causing major traffic jams in Mpumalanga while delivering this load. The queue was responsible for severe tailbacks and created a travel nightmare for commuters in the province. People aren’t pleased with the utility’s management of the situation:

Of course, it wouldn’t be a conspiracy theory about Eskom without mentioning Chinese involvement. Last year we reported that South Africa was exporting 77 million tons of coal to countries in Asia, despite the nation’s power utility complaining of dire shortages. This latest move has reignited some old fears:
