The grand tour of Palazzo Steyn:
Carolyn and Douw Steyn gave Top Billing an exclusive look at their strikingly beautiful and much-talked-about home and it’s nothing short of magnificent.
The ‘self-made Titan’ of the insurance world along with his wife gave the show an all-access pass to their mansion titled ‘Palazzo Steyn’ within Steyn City.
Steyn City can be located on the edge of Sandton, connecting Fourways to Lanseria, Broadacres and Midrand. Steyn City is said to be bigger than Monaco and includes a magnificent golf course.
In the video, Top Billing Presenter, Jonathan Boynton-Lee remarks that it doesn’t even feel like they are in Johannesburg while walking about Steyn City:
“There’s such a feeling of freedom. Very seldom when you go for a walk do you bump into people, so this is quite unusual…having a chat with someone here at Steyn City,” says philanthropist and founder of 67 Blankets, Carolyn Steyn.
Architect, Wynand du Plessis says they were approached about nine years ago to design Palazzo Steyn. He and his team were asked to design “a grand country mansion in a classical style.”
Designer Stephen Falcke said that house is full of European (especially Italian) style touches, and they were all done by local craftsmen:
“When you look at this beautiful chandelier, it actually came from the Cafe Royal in London…It’s wonderful things like this that really made this house what it is,” says Stephen.
“As big as it is, it had to be a home for Carolyn and Douw,” he continues. “It had to be a place that they would call home and relax and you know, entertain and enjoy. It had to be warm.”
The house features an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, two guest bedrooms, a background music system, library, a massive garage and more.
