Watch the unbelievable moment when England’s Ben Stokes deflected a throw to the boundary, which ultimately lead to the team’s Cricket World Cup win over New Zealand.

According to Stuff, England’s quest for a maiden Cricket World Cup was greatly aided by a controversial piece of fortune.

With three balls to go in the match, New Zealand-born England batsman Ben Stokes hit a ball into the deep and ran for two.

As he slid to make his ground, the ball ricocheted off his bat and across the boundary for four, which added to the two he had already scored to give him six runs off the Trent Boult ball.

England then had another two men run out in the final two balls leaving them on 241, the same total as New Zealand – which lead the suspenseful match to a super over. England batted first with Stokes and Jos Buttler back in the middle. England posted 15 in their extra over.

James Neesham and Martin Guptill then came in for New Zealand. On the final ball of the over, New Zealand needed two runs to win. Guptill ran for two, but Jason Roy aimed a perfect strike to Buttler, running him out in dramatic fashion and handing England their first World Cup ever.
