“Do I snaaks?” – Charlize Theron trips Seth Rogen up with her Afrikaans [video]

Something tells us Seth Rogen might need a few more Afrikaans lessons, after Charlize Theron reverted to her South African roots in hilarious fashion.

Guys, we think we’ve found our new favourite double-act in Hollywood and it features one of our very own: Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen are currently on the promotional trail for their new film Long Shot, and they’ve been having the time of their lives.

Their on-screen chemistry seems to be just as strong off-set, as the pair face the media to publicise their upcoming comedy-drama: The film is based on a journalist (Rogen) who ends up working alongside his former babysitter (Theron) after she launches a bid to become the US president.

Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen take a lie detector test

One of their recent tasks included taking a lie detector test for Vanity Fair. Rogen starts first, as his South African co-star grills him over his personal life and professional career. It’s only when Charlize Theron is put on the spot that her Afrikaans begins to show. Seth asks her “what is the most South African thing you could say right now?” – to which the actress replies “let’s have a braai tonight, hey?”

Her SA accent makes a triumphant, if not brief return. Hilariously, the lie detector doesn’t move an inch!

Afrikaans in Hollywood

She goes on to call the Canadian an “oulike ou” (nice guy), who is “baie snaaks” (very funny) and likes to “rook” (smoke weed). Wait, Seth Rogen smokes weed? We never knew, maybe he should mention it in one of his films…

Of course, this leaves him somewhat perplexed with what he’s just heard. Getting lost in translation, Rogen asks Charlize “do I smaaks” – or, “do I funny”. She humours him and just agrees with his question. Again, the lie detector stands firm, proving the indisputable medical fact that Seth Rogen is indeed a funny guy.

The trademark Seth Rogen chuckle – on par with Jacob Zuma’s in terms of how recognisable it is – is present throughout the clip. Hell, if Seth enjoys our unique languages so much, he knows where to come and find us!
