It can be hard to sort through all the noise and travel options for somewhere new, different and a little off the beaten path (but still easy to get to and relatively tourist friendly). The team at DUInsure walk you through a few of their favourite destinations that are tipped for 2020 travel.

Sicily

The island of Sicily, located just off the ‘toe’ of Italy, is one of the top destinations recommended by Forbes for 2020 due to its remarkable historical sites. These include the Valley of the Temple which is home to the remains of seven Doric temples set in a lovely grove of almond and olive trees and the Cappella Palatina which is a formal royal chapel in Palermo where you can see ancient Byzantine mosaics. You can also explore the amazing landscape of Europe’s biggest and most active volcanoes, Mount Etna. Travel consultants suggest that Sicily still has an authentic feel that has been lost by more mainstream destinations with numerous little villages that are ideal for exploring as a couple or with the kids for a more family friendly holiday.

Marrakech

Marrakech, in Morocco, is considered quite an up and coming travel destination at the moment with a variety of unique experiences available. These include a candlelit dinner in the middle of the desert for couples or camel rides for families. The medina dates back to the Berber Empire and is a walled medieval city that’s a maze of alleys and marketplaces selling traditional Moroccan textiles, pottery and jewellery. Marrakech has numerous palaces, mosques and beautiful gardens, but perhaps none are so well known as the Koutoubia Mosque with its Moorish minaret that rises above the city skyline and is visible for miles. Make sure to stay in one of the famous Riads rather than a generic hotel as these are all part of Marrakech’s charm.

Travel to Tokyo in 2020

The capital of Japan is the perfect mixture of ultra-modern and traditional Japanese culture where beautiful, old temples rub shoulders with huge skyscrapers. The city offers an amazing choice of entertainment, culture and dining opportunities to visitors as well as museums, temples and gardens. Be sure to try using the subway in Tokyo, though it appears confusing at first (it’s been compared to a bowl of noodles) it’s actually quite easy to navigate and can take you pretty much anywhere you want to go in the city.

Top attractions include the Tsukiji Market, which used to be the main market and is a great place to eat, and going shopping in Harajuku, where Tokyo’s fashionistas gather. There’s also Shinjuku which is the biggest nightlife district in the city and truly has something for everyone and it’s worth noting that Tokyo actually has more Michelin stars than Paris if you have money to spare for some fantastic dining experiences.

On top of all these wonders, Tokyo is hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics so going next year means a great opportunity to be a part of something special.
