Three US airlines have drawn the line and banned the transport of hunting trophies

First Lufthansa and Emirates; and now three of the United State’s largest airlines have decided to take a stand and ban the transport of lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino trophies.

In light of the death of the rare black-maned lion, Cecil, three of the United State’s largest airlines have moved to ban the transport of hunting trophies on their planes.

The Rand Daily Mail reports that American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines have all taken a hard line against the transport of lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino hunting trophies.

The change in attitude came as a petition from the awareness and action site Change.org garnered over 400 000 signatures calling for stricter measures targeting the hunting industry.

Well, not to brag, but South African Airways put a ban on hunting trophies along with Lufthansa and Emirates airlines months ago already… only SAA lifted the ban a week or so ago with some ‘assurance’ from the South African department of environmental affairs that they’ll take better care of our wildlife.

Delta Airlines – the only US airline with direct flights between the States and South Africa – is also looking at a complete blanket ban on all hunting trophies, not just the five mentioned above.
