While the hospitality sector wasn’t exactly booming over the past year, properties that were able to adapt to new ways of operating and adhering to the strict covid protocols, whilst still providing luxury experiences to guests, seem to have fared best.

A member of the global Red Carnation Hotels collection, The Oyster Box in Umhlanga, KZN, is one such property, having recently been rewarded for their efforts, with international recognition in the prestigious Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards 2021.  The property scooped 2nd place in the Top 3 Resort Hotels in Africa category and 90th place, in the Top 100 Hotels in the World category.

Travel & Leisure praised those travelers whose votes contributed to the final results. ‘Your love of exploring the world has helped sustain the travel industry during these tumultuous times, and as the world began to reopen, you were among the first to get back out there. Your insights on those trips — and on your pre-pandemic journeys, too — informed these rankings of the World’s Best…’

“I’m especially thrilled with the accolade this year, as it comes on the back of one of the industry’s most challenging years,”

says General Manager of The Oyster Box, Roberto Rosa

“The quieter period did provide the opportunity to give renewed attention to the business from an internal perspective,” he adds, “because good service, staff training and teamwork, are all areas that need ongoing work and effort.”

“The genuine care, passion and pride our staff display towards all guests constantly impresses me,” Rosa says, “so with this joint effort, I know that we will maintain and improve our standards, continuing to create memorable guest experiences for many more years to come.”

As ‘thank-you’ to all South Africans for their ongoing support, most especially over the last 18 months,  The Oyster Box is offering SADC residents incredible rates and special packages.
