Last week the South African reported the reopening of the Seychelles to vaccinated visitors from South Africa. The report stated that the lifting of restrictions for all South Africans was under discussion, with potential welcoming of all travellers from South Africa, vaccinated or not, on the cards.

SEYCHELLES OPENS UP TO ALL SOUTH AFRICANS

In a statement released on Monday 1 June, the Seychelles has now opened its borders to all South African visitors, according to Travel News. The full reopening comes as good news for many South Africans who are looking for balmy island escapes during the chilly winter months which are now upon us.

“With immediate effect, Seychelles is ready to welcome all visitors, irrespective of their vaccination status, on the condition that they have a COVID-19 negative PCR test certificate that must be taken within 72 hours prior to travel,” Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism said in an update.

SEYCHELLES ALLOWS QUARANTINE FREE ENTRY

Given the negative reputation South Africa has gained due to the widely publicised 501y.v2 variant, South Africans are often subjected to costly quarantines when travelling to most countries which will allow entry at this time.

The greatest part about the Seychelles’ updated entry requirements is that South African visitors will not be required to quarantine on arrival.  This requirement has become the norm for entry to many countries.

“No quarantine is required for visitors entering Seychelles. However, they are strongly encouraged to be fully immunised before travel. Passengers are allowed free movement throughout their entire holiday but must adhere to all public health measures. They are also free to stay at any health-certified tourism accommodation establishment on condition that they follow all health protocols that are in place at these establishments,” the statement said.

EXCLUSIONS UNDER REVISED ENTRY REGULATIONS

The updated entry restrictions state that all travellers arriving from South Africa would be permitted to enter the Seychelles with the exception of those who had been in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Nepal and Pakistan in the 14 days prior to their arrival in the Seychelles.

All visitors to the Seychelles are required to complete a Health Travel Authorisation for entry to the Seychelles. This can be obtained here.
