If you’re stuck in the office all week – or on weekends – we may just have thing to get you through those dull days. If you can’t go to South Africa’s National Parks, let the wildlife come to you.

Three live streams for your viewing pleasure

Simply head over to the SANParks website and enjoy three webcams as well as additional still cams placed strategically across South Africa’s National Parks.

Addo Elephant National Park live stream

From the Addo Elephant National Park live stream, to the Satara and Orpen cams streaming live from the Kruger National Parks, never miss out on waterhole activity again.

Kindly note that viewing live video streams of the webcam requires a lot of bandwidth, as well as a high-speed Internet connection. In addition, some streams may be down due to power failures.

The SANPark team remarks lightheartedly:

“These are photos taken every few minutes. It may happen that the update is disrupted due to power failure (hey, this camera is in the African wilderness after all), or bad weather conditions.”

If your Internet connection is letting you down, you could also take a peek at some of the photo stills shared on the SANParks website.

The webcam discussion forum can be accessed via this link. Webcam etiquette, frequently asked questions and guidelines for interacting on the forums can be found here. The forum moderators explain:

“Most important is that members have fun here – and enjoy the cam experience! Please […] show tolerance towards members who might slip up and not follow the guidelines to the letter at times. The Webcam etiquette should be regarded as a guideline and is intended to create sharing and a friendly environment on the cam forums.”

Kruger National Park Orpen live stream

History of the SANParks webcams

Since 2004, the camera near the Orpen waterhole in the Kruger National Park has taken a photo every 30 seconds. In fact, the Orpen camera was so popular, a second one had to be installed.

The second webcam – paid for by the public who simply needed a bigger wildlife fix – was placed southeast of the Satara camp in 2006, just outside the fence and it provides excellent game viewing.

The Satara webcam has a wireless connection to the SANParks network and can be controlled remotely to pan, tilt or zoom in on areas of interest.

In addition, the webcam at the Addo Elephant National Park was placed in 2017. Still cams at Orpen, Satara, Addo and Punda Maria can also be accessed via the site. Camera highlights are shared regularly.
