Things are a bit rough in South Africa at the moment. We’re in a political climate that’s extremely uncertain and while there is plenty we can all do to make things a little bit better, sometimes we just need a nice distraction.

Well, say Jacques Crafford, a travel photographer and videographer, who has been sharing some amazingly breathtaking footage of places in South Africa.

He shared this video of the Tsitsikamma forest about eight months ago, but it’s still as beautiful as ever. Have a look.

The word “Tsitsikamma” hails from the Khoekhoe language tse-tsesa, meaning “clear”, and gami, meaning “water”, probably referring to the clear water of the Tsitsikamma River.Other meanings are ‘place of much water’ and ‘waters begin’.

If you’ve ever driven past it or been there yourself, you will know that it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.

It’s the perfect place for adventurers and for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Tsitsikamma National Park forms part of the greater Garden Route National Park. The area is covered by large areas of forest as well as commercial plantations and fynbos.

There are also many rivers in the area that have carved deep gorges into the mountains as they wind their way from the plateau to the sea.

The forest that surrounds it is indigenous rain forest with 116 types of massive trees, including the giant Outeniqua yellowwood tree.

So it’s a perfect getaway for nature lovers, too!
