We’ve somehow blinked and it’s March again. It’s great to see local brands shining and whenever its got to do with anything travel and tourism related, my ears are guaranteed to prick up. Tourism is on the rise in South Africa and is predicted to grow steadily as the number of foreign visitors into the greater African continent is expected to increase according to a projected outcome for 2020.

We are also seeing more of the big international hotel brands opening up hotels in Africa but thought that before we get to that- let’s instead start at home, in South Africa, and cover some exciting new projects popping up in 2020, or just newly opened – and already ready to welcome you.

Boschendal Tented Camp, Franschhoek

Trust Boschendal to keep us always wanting more. This luxury working farm is known and loved for their home-grown take on things, as they serve up incredible quality farm produce in an unrivaled setting.

Adding another feather to their cap, there’s now also a luxury tented camp experience on offer as their newest exciting addition to the Boschendal accommodation offering. Seven impeccably furnished and fully serviced tents are nestled between indigenous fynbos and ancient olive trees, overlooking the encompassing mountain ranges.

Not sold yet? Well, they’ll add to that pretty perfect picture, the chance for you to also enjoy their famed picnics on site or enjoy an outdoor spa treatment as they cater for you every step of the way as you unwind fully and escape the city noise.

Pineapple House Boutique Hotel, Cape Town

This charming hotel is the newest kid on Sea Point’s block. Featuring nine trendy en-suite rooms, all with unique and eclectic design touches adding to the hotel’s character, you’ll soon see why their slogan of “catering to the discerning global traveller” rings so true.

Pineapples were traditionally considered an expression of “welcome” and symbolise the assets the founding couple has invested in their first hotel – friendship, hospitality, and warmth. With decadent fabrics and thoughtful artwork, blended effortlessly with modern, luxurious amenities, this will be a stay to remember.

Kruger Shalati, Kruger National Park

This one’s on our radar for all the right reasons. An iconic new offering in the heart of the Kruger National Park awaits and the history and design link to it is guaranteed to make you smile, as it nods to the bygone era of the first safaris in Africa.

Dating back to when the very first visitors to Kruger National Park entered by train which was parked at the same spot at the Selati Bridge where this new train hotel will now proudly host guests in 2020.

Recreating this incredible storyline for their guests, Kruger Shalati now boats a similar experience to the original by having created an Afro-chic boutique hotel in the form of a stationary train permanently positioned on the same bridge and helping to bring the magic of the encompassing African bush to life.
