Cape Town will be playing host to its annual Pride festivities again from Friday, 21 February to Sunday, 2 March 2014. While there’s bound to be lots of imbibing across the city, we decided to take a look at the best places to dine for gay and lesbian visitors.

1. Five Flies

Located in the City Bowl on Kareem Street, Five Flies stands out as the best pick among the bunch. Set in a stately townhouse, the large (200 seats) and slightly touristy eatery reflects a Californian-inspired food menu, which is highly varied in choice and usually sourced locally. Five Flies is an award-winning restaurant of international acclaim, housed in an unassuming Cape Dutch building right in the heart of town. The 200-seater restaurant is made up of exclusive private dining rooms, but also features a swanky bar opening out onto a vibrant courtyard as well as a sophisticated cigar lounge. The restaurant prides itself in having a sophisticated mix of good food, great ambience and outstanding service. 2. Cafe Manhattan

The latest addition to the Madame Zingara empire and also known as one of Cape Town’s premier gay cafés, this funky restaurant with a decidedly American motif was founded in 1994 – the same year South Africa entered democracy. The Western-themed menu has a lot to offer, including burgers, brunch options and, of course, a full bar. 3. Beluga

Beluga is a bit of a fancy-schmancy kind of restaurant, which has been visited by dignitaries and luminaries alike, and for a good reason. Beluga is situated in a one-hundred-year-old warehouse building complete with its iconic solid wooden floors and ceilings. The New York loft feel combined with the vast open-plan kitchen is the talk of Cape Town. 4. Andiamo

This quaint eatery located in the old Cape Quarter Shopping Centre features both local and imported treats, centred around a Mediterranean menu.
