This is grim. Utterly, utterly grim. A malicious account on TikTok has assumed the identity of the Democratic Alliance (DA), posting a series of crude and repulsive videos in the process. The clips on the social media site encourage violence against EFF members – and even call for the reinstatement of apartheid.
To clarify, the DA only has one TikTok account. And it’s been recently introduced by John Steenhuisen…
The videos have racked up thousands of views between them, but one particular entry has caused an almighty storm online. After being viewed over 350 000 times within two days, the page has become a problem for the DA.
Sadly, the video has been liked over TWENTY THOUSAND times. The racist posts seem to go much further than an anonymous ‘edgelord’ looking for a reaction, and the anti-EFF sentiment immediately turns into something more sinister. For context – and to highlight which page is the fake DA account – you can see the offending post here.
Shocking. The page itself, which bears the DA’s name and emblem, has racked up almost half a million views across its five video posts. The page has been reported ‘several times’, but still remains active as of 17:30 on Monday: The condemnation has been universal across the comments section, and Twitter users have also caught wind of the clip.
