Getting things done as fast as possible is all the rage in our modern age. Google saw a gap in the market, and rolled out a series of .new extension back in 2018.
At the time, the service was available for doc.new, sheets.new and slides.new. Gone were the days of opening Google Drive if you wanted to open a new Google Doc.
All you had to do was type docs.new in your browser, and Google would automatically redirect you to a new document, effectively cutting out about seven steps.
This inspired Google Registry to release the .new domain extension as a way for people to perform online actions in one quick step – from writing a blog post to creating a playlist.
From December 2019, any company or organisation will be able to register its own .new domain to help people get things done faster, too.
At the time of publishing, Google rolled out an additional 10 .new extensions, and other big brands followed suite. Here are some of the most used .new shortcuts.
In addition to the above, you can also try OpenTable’s reservation.new, eBay’s sell.new and Github’s repo.new are also handy time-savers.
Similar to .app, .page, and .dev, .new will be secure because all domains will be served over HTTPS connections, to ensure your online safety and security
From 2 December 2019 to 14 January 2020, anyone will be able to apply for a .new domain through Google’s Limited Registration Period.
Do note, however, that your idea for a .new domain has to be in line with Google’s policies; which can be perused here. To register a .new domain, simply head over to whats.new.
With .new, you can help people take action faster. We hope to see .new shortcuts for all the things people frequently do online.
