Huawei P40 Pro: Rumours, leaks and renders

Penta-lens

Trusted mobile leaker Evan Blass recently shared new renders of the upcoming P40 Pro on social media, which gives us the best look at Huawei’s upcoming next-gen phone yet.

Do note that while renders can accurately predict what the device will look it, nothing is certain until Huawei announces the forthcoming series in two months.

According to Blass, the phone will come complete with a ceramic build coupled with glass panels on the front and back. The render also shows the camera setup on the back.

According to Let’s Go Digital, the Huawei P40 Pro may be the first smartphone to run on Huawei’s new operating system, instead of Google’s Android. Not much is known about the design as yet.

We do know from Blass’ images that the camera setup is definitely getting an upgrade. Furthermore, the device will likely feature a ‘penta-lens’ developed in cooperation with Leica. Huawei is set to announce the new series in March 2020

Render set: Four cameras

Another leak showed the device with a four-camera setup. According to GSM Arena, Huawei could be releasing an additional phone as part of the upcoming series.

As Peter from GSM remarks: “Apple did it and so did Samsung, so why not Huawei?”

“The premiere [five-camera] model, dubbed Huawei P40 Pro Premium Edition, has a periscope telephoto lens with 240mm focal length. Assuming that the main camera has a 24mm lens, that’s 10 x optical zoom. Compare that to the four camera model, the P40 Pro, which has a 125mm periscope lens. That should be 5 x optical zoom.”

As reported by Tech Radar, the device will come in the standard black, as well as brush gold, silver frost, deep-sea blue, and ice white with a gradient finish.

Huawei MatePod

Earlier this year, Let’s Go Digital uncovered a patent document filed by the manufacturer with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as well the for the UK Intellectual Property Office.

The patent was for the upcoming MatePod headset, rumoured to be Huawei’s new wireless headset. In addition, word on the Internet is that the MatePod will be released alongside the P40 Pro.

The MatePod is not to be confused with the MatePad, Huawei’s Android tablets.
