The Huawei Mate 40 series is expected to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20. A new patent document was uncovered by the Let’s Go Digital team, and gives us some indication of what to expect.

The patent document indicates that the phone will feature a quadruple-camera system and that the round trim will consist of a touch display. The patent document can be viewed here.

The document was filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) back in 2019 and included in the property office’s Global Design Database, along with 15 product drawings and a clear colour image.

The patent description shows that the interface responds to touch, clicks and sliding gestures. In addition, the display ring could also be used to zoom in and out while taking photos, or even while recording a video.

You can also control the volume and alarm as well. It would even be possible to use the touch display to turn a page while reading an e-book, simply by making a scroll-gesture from left to right.

The rear display is situated in such a way that it’s easy enough to operate it with your index finger while looking at the front display

Huawei Mate 40 camera

If rumour has it, the Mate 40 will have a 40MP primary lens with an 8MP secondary telephoto lens and 16MP wide lens along with a duel-LED flash and Leica optics.

The selfie camera will reportedly be a 24MP with f/2.0 aperture. As for video, the device will support 1080 pixels per 30 frames per second.

Huawei Mate 40 series release date and cost

We could expect a launch date around September or October 2020. The device was first announced back in December 2019.

As for price, we can only compare it to the Huawei Mate 30 range at this stage to give somewhat of an indication. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro ranges between R19 000 and R21 000. Prices may be similar for the Mate 40 range.
