Riot Games the makers of League of Legends (LoL), one of the most popular e-sports titles, will finally be releasing another game.

The Riot team confirmed in a statement that they will be releasing three titles in the coming months. LoL was released ten years ago and continues to attract professional gamers and spectators the world over.

The free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) continues to dominate the genre, along with DOTA 2. LoL has undergone near-constant development since release.

The titles get regular content and gameplay updates; which have kept the game fresh and competitive despite stiff competition from rival MOBAs.

Time for a League of Legends sequel

With all the work that has gone into keeping League of Legends at the top of its game, you could probably forgive the Riot team for taking a while to release their second game.

The ten years that have passed however puts them in the same league as Blizzard when it comes to taking their time about pushing out products.

In fact, it’s been a bit of an industry joke that a company called Riot Games in fact only ever released the one game.

In typical Riot style though the company is looking to set the record straight and are looking to keep to their history of under-promising and over-delivering.

Riot will be releasing three titles, a first-person shooter a card game and a new multi-platform MOBA. The first-person shooter, Project A, looks to be an Overwatch style character-based shooter.

No doubt League of Legends will be looking to give users everything they’ve learnt; developing League of Legends to build out an immersive, tactical and competitive experience.

Legends of Runeterra will lean heavily on the League of Legends Lore. Runeterra will be a card game leveraging all the work that has been done in building the League of Legends mythology.

This will be similar to what Blizzard did in creating Hearthstone; which has become a competitive e-sport in its own right.

Finally, Riot will be doing what they do best, releasing a new 5v5 MOBA. The game will be based on the original League of Legends characters and will be titled Wild Rift.

Excitingly, the game will be designed from the ground up. It will feature the original League of Legends characters and will be coming to Android, iOS and consoles by the end of 2020.

You can sign up online now if you want to be part of the Runeterra beta program that’s running until 20 October.
