Virtual reality enthusiasts will be one step closer to playing the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Participants will be able to play the Flight Simulator in VR using a Windows Mixed Reality headset like HP’s Reverb G2.

Along with a Flight Simulator Insider membership, the system meets the minimum specs.

The Beta experience

The second phase of the program includes “additional devices,” of which Asobo has remained tight-lipped about. It is slated to start in late October or early November.

During a developer Q&A, Microsoft Flight Simulator boss Jorg Neumann explained how the team worked on the VR support for a year and have reached the point where player feedback is needed.

How to sign up

To get on the list, you will have to sign up for the Microsoft Flight Simulator Insider program. All instructions on how to do this can be found on the official site, and you’ll need a WMR ( Windows Mixed Reality) headset.

Neumann teased that there would be a second world update. The first one being Japan and the next one being the US. There are no official dates regarding the updates, but the plan is to release world updates every two or three months.

Features such as shared cockpits and seasons were also teased but will take a little more time to be updated as the priority right now is making the multiplayer a more polished experience.

Members of the Insider program will get to test the features before they appear in the live game and get early access to alpha and beta phases. Announcements regarding pre-release builds will be constantly updated on the site.

With the fourth industrial revolution upon us, this is an exciting venture for technology moving forward.
