Now that the Epic Games Store’s Mega Sale is over, we can return to our regular routine of waiting patiently for one (or two) free games per week; without the drama of the sale’s “mystery reveals”. This weeks freebie is Pathway.
The Mega Sale concluded with the giveaway of Ark: Survival Evolved. If you downloaded it before the deadline, it’s free to play forever. We are all for that. Read more about Ark here.
Pathway, which was developed by Robotality and published by Chucklefish is a rogue-lite strategy and turn-based game described as a “rip-roaring adventure into the unknown.
Explore the strange unknown with Pathway, a strategy adventure set in the 1930s great wilderness. Unravel long-forgotten mysteries of the occult, raid ancient tombs and outwit your foes in turn-based squad combat.
Explore temples, tombs and the desert wilderness in a grand pulp adventure. The game is available to play on Windows, Mac & Linux.
Pathway has a top critic average of 68%, with most ratings landing it in the “fair” category. David Wildgoose from Gamespot describes it as a “workmanlike XCOM-lite whose breezy tone stumbles into some tired tropes.”
In addition, Austin Suther from TechRaptor said the game “throws in a lot of different gameplay elements, but does it everything well”, Suther adds:
“The strategic combat is simple and fluid, and doesn’t outstay its welcome. The vignette-like adventures and palatable and entertaining. Perhaps the best of all, it’s one of the best-looking pixelised games in recent memory”.
You have until 25 June to download the game absolutely gratis. Get it here.
A few key features of the game includes dynamic adventures, tough choices, decisive conflicts, as well as the ability to build your team of adventurers and find hidden treasures. Chuckefish it as follows:
