Download ‘Aer Memories of Old’ and ‘Stranger Things 3: The Game’ as your two free PC games from the Epic Games Store this week. You have until 2 July.

Epic Games is giving away two free PC games this week, Aer: Memories of Old, and Stranger Thing 3: The Game. Hurry up, though, you only have until 17:00 SAST on 2 July 2020, and a week goes past so fast.
Last week’s freebie was Pathway. If you missed out on the free download, you can purchase it from the Epic Games store for $6.39 (R110). Here’s what you need to know about this week’s freebies.
Free PC games from Epic Store this week
Aer: Memories of Old, which was developed by Forgotten Key and published by Daedalic Entertainment, is an open-world adventure game with an age restriction of 10.
Transform into a bird and fly to explore and experience a vibrant world of floating islands in the sky. Venture down into lost ancient ruins where each step leads you closer to the end of the world.”
Sounds fun! The open-world holds mysteries, puzzle and temples to explore with a strong focus on atmosphere and aesthetics “with a vibrant minimalist art style”, according to the developers. Get it here.

Aer: Memories of Old has a Top Critic Average of 67, and a ‘Fair’ Open Critic Rating. Jack Yarwood from PC Gamer wrote that it’s a “beautiful game with great flying”, while AJ Maciejewski from Video Chums added:
“‘AER Memories’ of Old is such a captivating game that it’s hard not to get lost in its beautiful and rewarding world”.
‘Stranger Things 3: The Game’
Stranger Things 3: The Game, which was developed and published by Bonus XP, is the official companion game to the third season of popular Netflix Original hit series, Stranger Things. Get it here.
It’s an action co-op game in which you can play through familiar events from the series. In addition, you’ll be able to uncover never-before-seen quests, character interactions and secrets unique to the game.

According to the developers, Stranger Things 3: The Game “blends a distinctively retro art style with modern gameplay mechanics to deliver nostalgic fun with a fresh twist. Ready to venture into the Upside Down?
While only 23% of critics recommended the game and the Open Critic Rating is ‘weak’, a handful of fans still loved it.
Chris Wray of WCCF Tech gave it a 7/10 rating and described it as a “decent throwback to older titles and a strong tie-in to the show”. Others were not so sure:
“The video game adaption of the popular show emulates the 80s aesthetic well, but the action is boring and the missions rarely push you to do more than move from Point A to Point B”.
