In addition, EA may just reveal a bit more about their plans for the Anthem online game, which unfortunately received heavy criticism for its run-time, inadequate features and technical bugs.

However, EA promised that it is currently working on the early stages of a complete rework, so we live in hope. The EA team said at the time:

“Incubation is a term we use internally – it essentially means we are going back and experimenting/prototyping to improve on the areas where we believe we fell short and to leverage everything that you love currently about Anthem,” Dailey writes. “We are a small team – about 30-ish, earning our way forward as we set out to hit our first major milestone goals.”

EA Play: What to expect

EA Play would have initially formed part of the E3 lineup; however, the show was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fan-favourites to look forward to include Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends as well as EA Sports FIFA and Madden NFL.

One of the highlights of the event is bound to be an unveiling of Star Wars: Squadrons. We’ll link to a write-up of the game here once all has been revealed. We do know that Star Wars: Squadrons will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC; with VR and cross-play support.

This is an exciting year for the gaming industry and the release of the two upcoming next-gen consoles — Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X — means that we can expect a slew of games.

The rise of the next-gen consoles

Many outside game developers will no doubt jump at the opportunity to create new games. The more the merrier, we say. In fact, Cnet summed it up quite succinctly:

“In some cases, that’s offered opportunities for experimentation, such as with Ubisoft’s groundbreaking Assassin’s Creed action-adventure game. The game launched in 2007 for Microsoft’s then-nascent Xbox 360, to rave reviews, and it’s since spawned a franchise with dozens of instalments, books, comic books, tie-in toys and a live-action movie”.
