‘Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality’ – What we know so far

What to expect

Developer Maze Theory and BBC Studios announced that Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality would be a reimagined version of the studio’s 2019 VR title Doctor Who: The Edge of Time.

The Edge of Reality will deliver a new and compelling first-person adventure for the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker.

Don’t worry though; all fans are catered for as Thirteen will also be joined by the fan-favourite Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. The story will pick up from the events of The Edge of Time.

New gameplay, monsters, and worlds were teased, including the Daleks (EXTERMINATE!) and the creepy Weeping Angels that gave me nightmares for a week.

Players will help the Doctor and wield the Sonic Screwdriver to defeat major threats. The Edge of Reality was built with current and next-generation consoles in mind; it has also been confirmed for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Maze Theory still has to explain how the VR gameplay has been optimised for standard console controls. However, you can definitely expect a first-person adventure with a lot of puzzles.

‘The Edge of Reality’ gameplay and release

Your mission is to save the universe and reality from time-breaking glitches, and there will be many obstacles along the way. There is no doubt that the adventures will be action-packed.

I, for one, can not wait for this one as Dr Who is the one story that has grown over the years spanning more than 50 years. I look forwards to hearing the loud hums of the TARDIS once more.

The game will launch in the Spring of 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC; with next-gen versions, confirmed but undated.
