Fans of hardcore wrestling and over-the-top arcade action can rest assured that AEW Fight Forever has their best interests at heart.

Following rumours that AEW had ordered the scaling back of the use of weapons and the depiction of blood, developers have quickly squashed the suggestion.

So much blood

Rather than seeking to bring out a hyper-realistic wrestling simulator, Yukes are working on something that is a little more about arcade fun.

Part of that is exceedingly over the top depictions of blood and of course a wide range of weapons.

Developers have found themselves under pressure with this game after failing to get it out before the much-vaunted WWE 2K23.

However, one element of WWE 2K23 that AEW Fight Forever could better without a great deal of innovation is the use of weapons and environments with the game.

AEW Fight forever leaning into hardcore

WWE 2K23 weapons can be hard to master and often don’t generate satisfying gameplay moments and as the only real competition for their game Yukes, who have developed WWE games in the past, will have noted the direction 2K have taken their series.

While WWE 2K23 seeks mass appeal, Yukes would do well to capture the spirit of their best wrestling games and lean into hardcore elements.

According to a report from Gamerant.com: Blood appears to be more prominent in hardcore match types such as Unsanctioned Lights Out Match and Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. Wrestlers may bleed if players target their opponent’s head with a weapon as shown in the screenshot depicting Hikaru Shida and Abadon. However, wrestlers may also bleed if players consistently land strong strikes on their opponents.”

AEW Fight Forever is set for release on 29 June 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game has been touted as a day one offering on Xbox Game Pass.
