Here are we again with another update surrounding Facebook’s upcoming foray into cryptocurrency. The social media giant, which last week revealed details surrounding it’s hyped forthcoming project known as Libra, is reportedly seeking to hire a new data professional. The new hire would work on the network’s upcoming crypto wallet Calibra.

In addition to this, Facebook is also seeking a policy specialist to assist with any potential regulatory obstacles. As per the first job description posted on Monday, Facebook advertised that is on the hunt for a new head of data science at Calibra.

Calibra is the name given to Facebook’s crypto wallet, an application which is under development for the Libra project. The new role will require the new hire to analyze how customers use the app and their decision making, based on data gleaned from across Facebook’s teams and products.

The new data engineer will need to put his/her knowledge to use “quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how our users interact with our core products,” as per the job ad.

Furthermore, the individual would also be responsible for managing service-level agreements. In a nutshell, the agreements between Facebook’s services and its user on how the company will provide the services as well as manage customer expectations.

More Details For Calibra Role

The job spec also provides some specifics on Facebook’s plans regarding the future and development of Calibra, and this includes banking and financial services:

“The wallet will be the delivery vehicle for many financial services starting with personal payments, but expanding to online and offline commerce and eventually lending and personal financial management. We are very focused on the mission of creating opportunities for the billions of people around the world that are excluded or are underserved by the incumbent financial players.”

So far, this marks the second position advertised by Facebook so far. On Friday, the social network announced that it’s on the hunt for a finance program manager to plan, lead and execute “on global, cross-functional finance projects.”

To date, Facebook’s career portal now lists over two dozen blockchain and crypto-related jobs. This is the effort of expanding the team working on Libra.

Data Privacy And A New Public Policy Manager

In light of Libra’s recent introduction to the world last week, many in the government and other industries have expressed concern surrounding the handling of user data by Facebook. Startups such as Stellar, Tendermint and MobileCoin all turned down offers to work with Facebook due to the vast control over user data which the Libra Association will access to.

Joe Lubin, the founder of Consensys, warned about trusting Facebook with wallet data on Friday stating:

“That our digital identity will never merge with Libra’s financial data is a hard perception to shake. It is almost a given, even if they have the best of intentions — ‘accidents’ and incursions happen when relying on centralized architectures.”

Facebook has already begun searching for ways to address potential policy risks by advertising another position for the role of a public policy manager.

The advertised role would include analyzing possible policy risks and “responding strategically to related legislative and regulatory initiatives.”

The successful candidate needs to have experience in “emerging payments, commerce, blockchain, digital identity, cryptocurrency, and related policy issues, as well as experience working on technology policy issues generally,” as per the ad.
