Get ready, folks, it’s almost time for the iPhone 11 launch event, which will also include the launch of a new range of Apple Watches.

The event will kick off at 19:00 South African Standard Time, on 10 September; and will live stream on YouTube. We’ve included the stream below, but take note that it’s not active yet.

Live streaming on YouTube

Apple have in the past resisted streaming its events on YouTube, a Google platform. However, with all the hype generated about the launch of the iPhone 11, it would be strange not to utilise YouTube’s reach.

This is just one of the many first Apple is undertaking. The mobile giant is on a mission of late to reach a ‘non-Apple’ audience.

One of the tactics included the launch of Apple Music on all web browsers. It’s still in the beta phase at the moment, but brought Apple in line with their competitors in a space that has been available via the web pretty much from day one.

Apple also recently expanded its support to third-party repair shops by launching a groundbreaking new programme to train technicians and give them access to genuine Apple parts.

What to expect from the iPhone 11 event

Apple will introduce three models this year – the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and the 11R. Even though these devices will include better cameras and faster processors, the design remains the same as with previous models.

While there is plenty of hype generated around the iPhone 11, most users are waiting – or hoping – that 2020 will be the year for bigger and better offerings.

Apple will also use the iPhone 11 event to introduce new Apple Watches. The new range is made of titanium and ceramic materials. In addition, we’re also hoping to hear about the upcoming Apple Arcade games, as well as the launch of Apple TV.

An iPhone by any other name…

We’ve been referring to the upcoming flagship phone as the iPhone 11, but that isn’t set in stone just yet. Apple’s current range includes the XS, XS Max and XR, with ‘X’ referring to 10.

The logical naming for the new range would be iPhone 11, or perhaps even XI. Apple blogger John Gruber suggested the names would likely be iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max but only time will tell.

While the upcoming devices are very similar in design to Apple’s current range of phones, it will boast improved cameras and faster processors.
