Over 600 people have been displaced from their homes in Masiphumelele Cape Town. The area has once again been hit by a fire.
The Department of Water and Sanitation will fund the construction of 60 emergency relief structures in Masiphumelele, donating R70 million.
Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu met with stakeholders in the fire-ravaged Masiphumelele informal settlement in Cape Town to discuss housing challenges in the area.
While the people of Masiphumelele begin to rebuild their homes, the animals affected by the fire are in desperate need of veterinary care and food.
The group’s Ali Sablay said they had to respond immediately to the disaster which happened just over a week before Christmas.
