Vehicles belonging to two witnesses providing testimony into the Lottery corruption probe were destroyed in fires just two days apart.

Funding choices made by the National Lottery Commission (NLC) have put several ‘double-dipping’ municipalities under the spotlight.

Parliament’s Trade, Industry and Competition Portfolio Committee will instruct the NLC to submit details of all recipients of Lottery grants.

Replying to a parliamentary question from the DA, Ebrahim Patel said that the Lottery should disclose its recipients.

The Department of Trade and Industry want allegations of maladministration in multimillion-rand Lottery-funded projects investigated.

A senior state advocate from the NPA’s Specialised Commercial Crime Unit said he declines to prosecute at this stage.

The Lottery is not classified as an essential service during lockdown, according to Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel.
