Scientists should be able to create magnetic fields on Earth that rival the strength of those seen in black holes and neutron stars.
The research is the latest to try and illuminate the mysterious formation of these cosmic monsters, which are so dense that not even light can escape their gravitational pull.
A team of astronomers from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) discovered a black hole just 1 000 light-years from Earth, and it can be ‘seen’ with the naked eye.
