Wayde van Niekerk wins blockbuster 200m beating Akani Simbine

Wayde van Niekerk won a blockbuster 200m race at the ASA Athletix Invitational Meet at Ruimsig Stadium on Tuesday, 30 March.

Van Niekerk, the world record holder in the 400m, beat good friend and compatriot Akani Simbine, finishing in a superb 20.10 in wet conditions.

Simbine finished in 20.29 with Tsebo Matsoso in third in 20.48.

Anaso Jobodwana disappointed in taking sixth place in 20.74.

Van Niekerk’s time was the second-fastest 200m time in the world in 2021.
