Rugby came under attack on Wednesday morning when Professor Allyson Pollock called for a ban on tackling in age-group rugby.

The Professor was speaking on popular morning show Good Morning Britain and to rugby’s defence came in media mogul and all-round scumbag Piers Morgan who absolutely tore into her argument.

Pollock presented “data from across the world” claiming that there’s a 25% chance of sustaining an injury and suggested that touch rugby be an alternative to full contact rugby at schoolboy level. To which Morgan tore into her, supported by former England Women’s international Maggie Alphons.

World rugby also responded, disputing Pollock’s claims.

“The continual claims made by Pollock are not based on like-for-like injury statistics and her extreme and alarmist conclusions are simply not supported by the data. It is well documented that, for most sports, injury rates increase with age, but the quoted research mixes 9-12 with 18-20 age groups.”
