Dricus du Plessis made South Africa proud with a knockout victory over Trevin Giles to continue his unbeaten start to his UFC career.

Du Plessis retained his 100 per cent finish rate in his professional career, and became the first man to KO Giles.

Stillknocks had great success with his ground game in the opening round but as Giles came at him in the second, he spotted an opening and dropped the American with a straight right coming off the cage.

After the fight, Du Plessis explained what his thought process was leading up to the finish. The Pretoria boytjie then gave the American crowd and announcers a lesson in how to pronounce his name.

What they said

Joe Rogan: I’m here with the winner Dricus du Plessis, congratulations sir, on your spectacular knockout victory. You had some great success in the first round with your ground game, but ultimately it was that big right hand that closed the show.

Dricus du Plessis: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I came in, you know my first fight, first round left hook. Finally, I know. I’ve had a lot of left hooks in the past but the right hand has the power as well, and yeah it felt amazing to be here. What a card, what a spectacular guy to fight. He has the best jab in the UFC and he proved that tonight, I was shocked. He has a bad job but knew he throws that jab and he leans a little, and I had that straight right, right off the fence.

Joe Rogan: Let’s take a look at it on the big screen because he had caught you with his shot previous to this and then you came off the cage with this perfectly placed right hand and as you landed it you had to know it was money.

Dricus Du Plessis: Yeah absolutely. What I saw he started doing was, he started to back me up and I can see he puts down his hands because he sees my guard is high, and he throws that knee and throws that elbow and I knew when you do that your face is pretty much exposed so I knew there was space for that straight right.
