Edinburgh vs Stormers: The men from the Cape go in search of that elusive first victory in the United Rugby Championship.

Edinburgh vs Stormers preview

Edinburgh await the Stormers at The DAM Health Stadium in what promises to be a fascinating encounter.

The hosts will have to put the disappointment of their last-gasp defeat to Benetton behind them. Edinburgh were beaten 28-27 in Treviso last weekend after Leonardo Marin split the posts with a late drop goal.

For the visitors, it has been a frustrating time as they have surrendered half time leads twice.

The Stormers will persevere with their attacking approach, as it will bear fruit soon, believes assistant coach Labeeb Levy as he contemplated Saturday’s clash with Edinburgh: “We took a lot away from Saturday (against Munster),” he said. “We felt a bit happier – compared to the previous week – with the style of play and a bit of intent. The players showed a lot of commitment, and better style of play, especially the backs, who had some nice penetration as well,” Levy said.

“(Offloads in the tackle) is something that we’ve put more emphasis on in the last two weeks especially, and the European teams are good in what they do, but they are not overly exposed to that style.”

Juan de Jongh will play his 100th game for the Stormers, joining Schalk Burger, Siya Kolisi, Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff, Jean de Villiers, Peter Grant and Andries Bekker in the centurion club.

Edinburgh have won only one of their last six matches across the United Rugby Championship and Rainbow Cup their triumph over Welsh outfit Scarlets in Round 1.

They were downed in dramatic fashion at Benetton last time out but will be bidding to maintain their winning record at their new ground against the Stormers.

Edinburgh expect to face a much-improved Stormers side on Saturday.

“They’re used to the type of game over here now with two games under their belts,” said Mike Blair.

“Stormers had an excellent first 37 minutes or so against Munster and not many teams go to Munster and are 15 points up near half-time.

“Munster got back into it through their driving game but Stormers, when they hit their straps, are a difficult team to stop.”
