Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo will not form part of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympic games.

This was confirmed by SA Olympic team coach David Notoane who explained the reason to TimesLIVE soon after announcing his final squad on Saturday.

According to Notoane, a compromise was reached between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Chiefs for the player to at least be available after the CAF Champions League final on July 17.

This was after Chiefs had initially refused to let Ngcobo be part of the SA Olympic team, citing his importance for the clash against Al Ahly in Morocco.

“He [Ngcobo] is joining after the [Champions League] final,” Notoane said.

What this means is that Ngcobo will miss the camp in Mpumalanga where Notoane will be taking his charges through their paces.

In addition, the Amakhosi starlet will miss the final warm-up match against Australia which is scheduled for 16 July.

South Africa will get their Olympics campaign underway with a clash against Japan, before meeting France and Mexico on 25 July and 28 July respectively.
