South Africa has a chance of not one but TWO medals in the women’s 200m breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics.

Tatjana Schoenmaker, the 100m silver medal winner, came within 5/100ths of a second of the world record in smashing the Olympic record, posting a time of 2:19.16.

That time wound up as easily the quickest of the heats with American Lilly King a distant second in 2:22.10.

In fourth place in the top 16 progressing to the semi-finals was another South African, Kaylee Corbett, who won her heat in 2:22.48, giving Team SA a genuine chance of two medals in the event.

The 200m breaststroke semi-finals will be held at 04:54 and 05:01 SA time on Thursday, 29 July.
