Bianca Buitendag wins Team SA’s second medal at Tokyo Olympics

Bianca Buitendag has won South Africa’s second medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s surfing final.

Bianca Buitendag has won South Africa’s second medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s surfing final.

Buitendag, 27, surfing in her final competitive event, had to settle for second place and the silver medal, handing the gold to American Carissa Moore.

Moore, from Honolulu, Hawaii, won with a final score of 14.93 to 8.46.

Bianca Buitendag hails from Victoria Bay on the Garden Route.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tatjana Schoenmaker won South Africa’s first medal of the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she finished second in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
