Harris beat 22nd-seeded American Reilly Opelka 6-7 (6/8), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in a match which lasted two hours and 35 minutes to book his berth in the last eight.

It’s the furthest Harris has ever progressed in a Grand Slam to date.

The 24-year-old Capetonian entered the tournament ranked 46th in the world, but has now moved up to a new career-high of 31st.

He will play fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev in the last eight.

Should he upset the German who won the gold medal at the recent Tokyo Olympics, he will move to 24th in the rankings.

Should Lloyd Harris go on to do the unthinkable and WIN the US Open, he will move to 11th!
