Lloyd Harris bows out of Miami Open

South Africa’s Lloyd Harris has bowed out in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open after defeat to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.

South Africa’s Lloyd Harris has bowed out in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open after a straight sets defeat to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz on Tuesday.

Hurkacz, who is the tournament’s defending champion, won 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 in a match which lasted 91 minutes.

Hurkacz set up a quarter-final with world No 2 Daniil Medvedev, who can regain the No 1 ranking from Serbia’s Novak Djokovic should he reach the semi-finals.

Despite the defeat, Harris will feel satisfied with his efforts in Florida as he reached the last 16 of a Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.

It had been an inconsistent 2022 for the 25-year-old Harris who entered the Miami Open with a 2-7 ATP win-loss record.

Harris started the week ranked 44th in the world, but is now up to 40th spot in the live ATP Tour rankings.
