South Africa’s tennis ace Kevin Anderson suffered a first round exit at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Monday – but did have R1 million reasons to keep his chin up.

Anderson, now 35, whose world ranking has ballooned to a current 97th in the world in recent years, lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) to big-serving American Reilly Opelka.
Opelka, who is the tournament’s 23rd seed, won the match in one hour and 46 minutes.
He will play 53rd-ranked German Dominik Koepfer in the second round.

Such are the incredible fortunes on offer to tennis players these days, Kevin Anderson took home A$90 000 (R1 million) for his 106 minutes of work.
That equates to R9 434 per minute!

Not too shabby at all!
Of course, Anderson would swap that for still being in the tournament.
It was a bad day for South Africa at the Australian Open with 30th-seeded Lloyd Harris also losing his opening tie to unheralded Australian Aleksandar Vukic.
