Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has agreed with Cristiano Ronaldo that the standards at the club had fallen sharply over the years.

Last year, former United star Cristiano Ronaldo said that United’s training facilities have declined since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson a decade ago.

The 38-year-old confessed this during his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan which led to his contract being terminated. Ronaldo left United in November to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

“He(Sir Alex) knows that (the club’s problems), he knows better than anybody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be. He knows. Everyone knows. The people who don’t see that is because they don’t want to see; they are blamed.

Ten Hag did admit he inherited a club in which the culture had change during an interview with the Times.

“We were aware of it,” Ten Hag admitted, when referencing the club’s struggles prior to his arrival. “I informed myself. After Sir Alex left, the culture changed over the years.

“One of the biggest qualities Sir Alex had was to have high standards. I wanted to bring it back in, so that everyone in this organisation lives the highest standards and the football players too,” Ten Hag added.

The manager is looking to release a total of 13 Manchester United players this summer in order to rebuild a competitive squad for next season.

Man United face rivals Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup this weekend. United have already won the Carabao Cup this season under ten Hag.
