“Homeless” Cape Town City are on the road again on Saturday, this time they travel to Nelspruit to meet Supersport United in what is the pick of the weekend’s fixtures.

Benni McCarthy’s men have had to play their previous fixture, which was a home game, all the way from KZN due to their allocated home venue not being available due to preparations for the Cape Town Sevens. A decision which did not go down too well with the UEFA Champions League winner.

Form guide

The home away from home might have had a hand in the 4-2 defeat they suffered in that game at the hands of Maritzburg United who no doubt felt more at home, seeing that the clash was more in their background than their opponents.

After looking the part at the start of the season, inconsistency has crept up on the side from the Mother City as they have stuttered along, only winning once in their last six games in the league. That win came in early November when they walked away 1-0 victors over Free State Stars at Athlone Stadium.

Supersport are also coming off a disappointing midweek result having played to a goalless stalemate against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday.

They are currently playing catch-up in terms of games played having been away on CAF Confederations Cup duty for much of the season.

Eric Tinkler’s men have shown a bit more consistency in their seven games played so far, winning four times and drawing twice with just one defeat and they currently sit in 10th place.

Head to head

This clash is a repeat of last year’s Telkom Knockout final where the Cape side triumph to grab silverware in their first season since an entry back into the top flight that is unique to SA football.

Having completed just one season so far, Cape Town City are yet to register a league victory over their opponents, with their two clashes so far yielding a 4-2 defeat and a 1-all draw.
