SuperSport United fought hard to edge out AmaZulu 2-1 in a DStv Premiership match played at the TUT Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday evening.

The Pretoria side survived a late surge from Usuthu to hold on to their 2-1 lead which elevated them to the second spot on the league standings.

SuperSport now have to hope that Pirates slip up along the way in order to have a clear path at qualifying for CAF Champions League.

SuperSport knew they needed a win and started the match positively with their wingers creating all sorts of problems for Usuthu’s defence. The Pressure finally paid off in the 15th minute when Thapelo Maseko opened the scoring to hand his side a 1-0 lead after his fellow winger Ghampani Lungu had delivered a great cross.

Amazulul suffered a blow when their goalkeeper Veli Mothwa went down injured just before the half-hour mark and he was replaced by Jody February. February has little time to settle as he was forced to produce a save to keep Amazulu in the game going into half-time

Matsatsantsa didn’t sit back and defend their slender after the restart as they continued to launch attacks which saw Maseka set-up Lungu who beat February to hand SuperSport a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

AmaZulu then pushed for a late equaliser but United keeper Ricardo Goss stood firm to deny the away side a goal.
