We’re not quite in the do-or-die phase of Super Rugby yet, but it feels like it for a few teams.

Highlanders 33-15 Stormers

The Highlanders opened the scoring through Liam Squire, before the Stormers responded with Chris Van Zyl crossing the whitewash after some handy footwork and ball handling skills in the build-up. SP Marais missed the conversion, however.

Not long after, Damian Willemse scored a fantastic try against the run of play, running almost the entire length of the field to score. This time, the conversion was over.

The Highlanders, however, continued to build the pressure before the break scoring twice through – with Aaron Smith and Waisake Naholo contributing the five-pointers this time.

And it was the hosts who came out stronger after the break with ‘ Luke Whitelock adding another five points and Lima Sopoaga being spot on with his conversion.

After, a period of tense play followed where both teams’ defence put in a good shift. Neither side could break the other for half an hour.

But Smith eventually sealed the match for the Highlanders as the Stormers’ woes on tour continued.

The Rebels continued their impressive Super Rugby form with a 33-10 tumping of the Brumbies in Melbourne on Friday. It’s quite a turnaround for a side who struggled in 2017.

It wasn’t really much of a contest, despite the Brumbies taking an early 0-5 lead.
